Olympiad potential for identifying mathematical giftedness in elementary schoolers

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the possibilities identifying mathematical giftedness in elementary schoolers with help Olympiad problems. For this, authors clarify concept “mathematical giftedness”, show relationship between concepts giftedness” and abilities”, indicate most significant abilities from set giftedness. role Olympiads mathematically gifted substantiated. This consists creating situations where participants are forced make mental efforts perform following actions: analysis a problem situation identify essential relationships, modeling new way action solve proposed problem, combining available methods apply limited time. criteria for compiling tasks students formulated, important which clear focus each task on demonstrating ability certain type, as well selection content problems strictly course mathematics. one should be based different sections mathematics course. examples provided substantiation their participant solving them given. results observing educational achievements (during entire stay at school) who showed prospects difficulties further research ways problem.
